Why Individual Tutoring?

With individualized tutoring we have the time we don’t have in the classroom to understand how the student is perceiving the math problems. That information enables us to help the student change perspectives, develop a greater understanding of the principles involved, and feel more successful.

This is especially true of the SAT. To perform at their highest level, each student should have guided experience with the test, an understanding of the different problem-solving methods required, and an individualized strategy based on their strengths and weaknesses, their test-taking speed, and their individual goals for scores.

Although I am willing to travel to students’ homes, I have a private office in my home one block north of Stony Brook's Loew's Cinema. I find this a better place to tutor because there are fewer distractions and I have all the math resources within easy reach.

 • WSI offers private foreign-language tutoring to junior-high school and high school age students in French and Spanish, as well as adults wishing to learn a new language or just brush up on their language skills learned in high school or college. Tutoring is also available in English as a Second Language for students and adults from overseas needing to improve all forms of communication in English.

Tutoring in High School Chemistry
I am a New York State certified Chemistry teacher with many years experience in both teaching and tutoring. I understand and relate to teenagers extremely well and I am thoroughly familiar with the Regents exam. I charge sixty dollars per session at the student's home (or other location) and fifty dollars at my home. The first session is half price.

Reach for the Stars Tutoring provides private, in-home tutoring services for children and adults of all ages, from preschool through college and adult. We tutor all subjects, for both general and special education. We also provide SAT prep, NYS test prep, and prep for the GED. We can help with homework, increase reading and math skills, and develop study strategies and test-taking skills. Our services are available year-round to support students and their families.

In addition, we give workshops in baby sign language, educating parents and teachers about the benefits of using sign language with their babies. We also offer family coaching services in which we help parents to manage behavioral issues and increase positive family dynamics. Last, we function as a resource center for families, referring them to other professionals when necessary and offering a variety of parent seminars.
