City Fairy Tale

What songs can we write?
When streets are quite bare.
Times Square has no fright
And strangeness becomes rare.
It will become such a bore
When most people we meet.
Are checking out at a store
Toting shopping bags and so neat.
The gritty Lower East Side
I tell you my good friend.
Will resemble a Disney ride.
Vacation postcards they will send.
Dear Mom, You will never believe,
I’m standing on a New York Street.
Old- time New Yorkers will sullenly grieve
Manhattans depiction of a city so sweet.
